(HighschoolGAMEDAY.com) - After 12 years of working with the likes of Bobby Bowden and Lou Holtz, longtime strength and conditioning guru Kevin Fitzgerald has a new goal in life. Instead of keeping athletes on the college playing field, he’s hoping to get them there.
Fitzgerald, who served as strength and conditioning coach at Florida State, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, is now directing combines for PrepChamps, a company hoping to change the way internet based recruiting is handled. Founded in February 2007, PrepChamps is designed to help student athletes get to the next level through combine workouts.
“The number one thing we want to offer our kids is quality,” says Fitzgerald. “There are a few other combines out there with a thousand kids. Number one, you can’t video that real well and you’re not putting out a good product for the kid or the university. Basically, they’re just trying to get numbers through.”
Fitzgerald knows what he’s doing. And he knows what the college coaches are watching for.
While at Florida State, he was in charge of putting on the Seminole’s Pro-Day - a school’s individual combine for NFL General Managers and coaches.
“Talk about pressure,” said Fitzgerald. “When you have those big guys watching your combine, you have to get it right. And you’ve got to give them what they want to see.”
And that’s exactly what PrepChamps expects to do.
Anyone can nominate a player for the combine. Whether you’re a parent or coach, download a nomination form and learn more about PrepChamps Combines on our PrepChamps Elite Combines page, here.
For questions about our combines you can email Kevin Fitzgerald at kfitzgerald@PrepChamps.com
Also, PrepChamps will be holding summer camps, which will be open to all levels of athletes. Whether you’re an athlete trying to play 1-AA, Division II or Division III football you’re invited to participate.
