Just less than a week away from one of the biggest days in college football recruiting, and we thought this article stood out as not only an example of the recruiting successes high school athletes can have by utilizing the ever-growing power of the Internet, but also as a bearing point in the increasingly full-tilt world of athletic recruiting.
No longer will high school athletes be left alone to surf through MySpace profiles in their free time: “The NCAA has no specific regulations about contact with recruits through MySpace or Facebook”, says the article, but also it warns that contact through these sites can be a double-edged sword for both college athletic programs and athletic recruits:
“There are four MySpace pages for Bobby Bowden. Two claim to be a 78-year-old male from Tallahassee, one a 28-year-old male from Hoboken and one a 108-year-old female from Tallahassee.”
We’ve all seen a couple of celebs on somebody’s myspace page and wondered, right? Now just think if you took it on face value that Bobby Bowden actually WAS contacting you through myspace?
On the other hand, while Noel Devine denied knowing about the YouTube videos posted of him during his days at North Fort Myers High School in Florida, he certainly stood out enough to Get Recognized and Get Recruited.
