Day four of this year’s annual Reebok All-American Camp was highlighted by two exciting match-ups, as the nation’s top prospect in the 2009 class, Renardo Sidney, matched up with Baylor signee Quincy Acy. Rounding out the night’s action, the nation’s top two rated backcourts faced off with one another.
Sidney has been the camp’s top overall prospect this week, as he possesses a unique combination of tremendous size, strength and finesse. Sidney’s ability to run the floor, handle the basketball, shoot from the perimeter and pass the ball to the open man make him such an amazing talent. He also is a dominating low post presence and is capable of taking over games when he puts his mind to it.
Wednesday evening, Sidney put his mind to it as he dominated the talented Quincy Acy on the low block. While Acy has overpowered much of the camp’s competition this week, he had his hands full with Sidney who pushed right through him for low post baskets and outrebounded him on both ends of the floor. Sidney’s domination of Acy proved his worth as the nation’s top overall prospect, regardless of class.
In the final exciting match-up of the day, Florida’s super backcourt of 6-foot-3 senior Kenny Boynton and 6-foot-3 junior Brandon Knight faced off with Oregon’s talented duo of Abdul Gaddy and Avery Bradley. While the two backcourts had faced off in an earlier scrimmage in the week, everyone in attendance watch with delight as the nation’s two premier backcourts went at it.
While the game was a easy win for Boynton and Knight’s team, as the reserves from both teams would decide this one’s final score, the four prospects would each finish with similar numbers in the game. After speaking with many of the camp’s staff and players, the consensus was that Gaddy and Bradley got the best of the Florida duo in this one.
Gaddy would finish 15 points on the night, while Bradley contributed 11. Knight chipped in 15 points of his own, while Boynton scored 10 after a strong defensive effort from Bradley.
The two backcourts will match-up again later this month in this year’s Reebok Summer Championships, so stay tuned for another dynamic showdown very soon.
