Reebok Breakout Underclass Camp day two morning session

Day two of this year’s Reebok Breakout Underclass Camp began Saturday morning with the morning session, which included player development and team practices for the players.

It has been enjoyable to watch the instruction given to the players, and the way that each of the players has seemed to receive the direction from the coaches giving it. Players are working very hard at each drill station to improve their individual ability, while also attempting to make a lasting impression on those in attendance.

What becomes most interesting to watch in these events each year is which kids are caught up in being noticed for each individual play they make, or those that simply play hard throughout the event, almost seemingly playing for the love of the game and the competition. You always see a good mixture of both, but it is definitely worth paying close attention to.

With the official start to game action set to take place later in today’s afternoon session, here are just a few players that have stood out thus far in drills …

Rashad Perkins 6-6 JR 2010 Starksville, MS
Perkins has been the highlight reel of the camp thus far in workouts. With many of the campers in attendance stopping to catch a glimpse of each of Perkins’ high-flying dunks, he has been very impressive in the early stages of the camp. Selected as the top draft choice also in last night’s team draft, it will be very interesting to see if Perkins can carry his superb athletic play into game action this afternoon.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. 6-4 JR 2010 Zion, IL
Smith is a do-it-all type possessing a high level of skillsets for his size. While he may be a bit of a tweener, he possesses a very strong frame and is capable of scoring with either hand around the basket. Also a very good passer with good court vision, he commands presence on the floor and seems to make the game look very easy.

Blake Mclimans 6-10 SR 2009 Orchard Park, NY
While Mclimans is a senior prospect in an underclassmen camp, he is still a very worthy prospect deserving of attention. For his extreme size, he has good agility and mobility and is fundamentally very sound.

Phillip Jackson 6-8 JR 2010 Chicago, IL
Jackson has a long, rangy frame that allows him to be a good shotblocker. Also a very active rebounder, Jacksons very athletic for his size and has good fluidity to his frame.

John Bailey 6-8 JR 2010 Mesa, AZ
Bailey seems to have grown some since I last saw him, so he is beginning to mature nicely. His length and combination of low post footwork and post moves allow him to score effectively around the basket. Also possesses a solid mid range jump shot which adds to his versatility on the floor.

Corey White 5-11 JR 2010 Providence, RI
White is one of the better pure point guard prospects in the camp, possessing a very strong handle and a solid feel for the game. Likes to push the ball uo the floor to the open man and is a good penetrator.

Robert Garrett 6-10 SOPH 2011 Sacramento, CA
Garrett has a very good sized frame and is a strong finisher inside.

Alex Murphy 6-7 FR 2012 Wakefield, RI
One of the elite 2012 prospects in attendance. Murphy is a very skilled player for his young age and size. Still soft physically, as he continues to mature he should develop into an elite-high major prospect.

Chris Coleman 6-9 SOPH 2011 Buffalo, NY
Coleman is a very developed young prospect that plays big. He keeps the ball up high on rebounds and attacks the rim. Also a good shotblocker. While he is still growing into his large frame, he has some serious potential for the future.

Jason Carter 6-7 JR 2010 Richmond, TX
Carter is a wide body that plays to his size. He uses his girth to gain inside position and collect rebounds on both ends of the floor. Also plays with good intensity and is a strong finisher around the basket.

While these are just a few of the better prospects that we have seen thus far in drills, Arizona Preps will be bringing you coverage of many more of the camp’s top prospects throughout the day as we enter the afternoon and evening sessions.
