I recently was sent a great New York Times article that talks about the importance that video (often homemade highlight mixes and footage) now plays in the recruiting process. It’s very important for athletes to actively seek out the colleges and coaches they’re interested in and take advantage of every opportunity to get noticed. The web is a great place for athletes to put their highlight videos, since more and more recruiters are using the Internet to find prospects that they otherwise might have missed.
The article points to the example of 15 year-old April Carson as proof. In 2006, she broke her middle school’s record for 3-pointers in a game with 7, and her father uploaded the video to YouTube. Since then, the video has over 11,500 views, and she’s been contacted by recruiters and coaches from schools such as Yale, Baylor, Princeton and Clemson.
While video will likely never be a true substitute for seeing someone play live, it definitely can help generate interest from coaches and recruiters who otherwise may not notice a particular athlete. So if you’re an athlete, put your highlight videos wherever you can, on sites such as YouTube and PrepChamps, so you can increase your chances of getting noticed.

This looks like a great recruiting website and I will be posting many videos in the future.
