Word of God and the nation’s #1 senior point guard, John Wall, will take on Ravenscroft and Duke recruit Ryan Kelly at 7pm tonight at home. Word of God has a 5-7 record, but their most of their losses have come to top teams at tournaments, such as the GSK Holiday Invitational and the City of Palms Classic. Ravenscroft comes in with a 12-3 record. This matchup will likely be one of the biggest games in the Triangle all year, as both teams feature exciting, talented players.
For Word of God, John Wall is the player that is on everyone’s radar, and he’s ranked by Rivals.com as the top player in the country. He’s currently considering schools such as Baylor, NC State, Duke, Kansas and Memphis, but likely won’t commit until after the season. He recently watched the Duke-Virginia Tech game from behind Duke’s bench, and he’s one of the quickest players with the basketball that I’ve ever seen. Check out these John Wall Highlights from the Reebok Summer Championships if you don’t believe me.
Other very talented players from Word of God include 6′8 junior forward CJ Leslie (committed to NC State), and sophomores Dezmine Wells (6′4″ guard/forward) and Bishop Daniels (6′2″ guard). Leslie is very athletic and can dunk on people, but also hit the outside shot. Wells and Daniels are both very athletic leapers who are great at getting to the rim, and they definitely have bright futures ahead of them.
Ravenscroft is led by 6′10″ forward Ryan Kelly, who has a semi-European style game–he’s a fundamentally sound big man who can pass and shoot effectively from the perimeter. Kelly will be suiting up for Duke next year. Matt Wilson (6′11″ senior) also gives the Ravens strong presence inside. Wilson will be playing for UNC-Wilmington next year.
The game tonight should be a great one. We’ll be there so stay tuned for a write up of the game after it’s over!
